MILLIE BOBBY BROWN'S JOURNEY IN 'DAMSEL'

~Unveiling Elodie's Transformation, Empowerment, and the Symbolism of Her Dress - Streaming on Netflix from March 8th, 2024~

‘Damsel,’ set to release on 08th March exclusively on Netflix, Millie Bobby Brown dives deep into her role as Elodie, a character that embodies breaking societal constraints and embracing freedom. Millie reflects on the symbolic evolution of Elodie's dress as a metaphor for personal growth, and shares the rewarding journey of portraying Elodie, highlighting the newfound self-reliance and resilience gained through the character's transformation.

When asked about her approach to playing Elodie, Millie shared, "I wanted to be as truthful and raw as possible. I didn’t want to scratch the surface of what she could be. I needed to dig really deep into who I personally was and I used a lot of personal experiences to become her." Millie also explained how her portrayal of Elodie was heavily dependent on her own self-discovery, which ultimately changed her as a person.

Millie reflects on her evolution as an actor, transitioning from ensemble roles in projects like ‘Stranger Things’ to the solitary lead in ‘Damsel,’ She said, "In 'Damsel,' I faced a new challenge unlike anything I'd done before. Transitioning from ensemble roles in 'Stranger Things' and 'Enola Holmes' to carrying the entire weight of the performance was daunting. It was a realization: Oh my goodness, it’s just me. I have to be there every day and I have to give myself fully every day."

A significant aspect of Elodie's transformation is her dress, which costume designer Amanda Monk referred to as "a Swiss Army knife" or a survival toolkit for Elodie. Millie discussed the challenges and symbolism of the dress, stating, "Dresses from that period are the worst things ever. Having to wear a corset and then 17 layers on top, you feel restricted, which I think is what society wanted at that time. They wanted women to feel restricted, to feel useless. And I did feel useless." However, as the movie progresses and the layers of the dress are peeled away, Millie describes the experience as "freeing" and "liberating," signifying Elodie's journey toward self-discovery and empowerment.

With Millie Bobby Brown's profound insights into her character and the symbolism of Elodie's dress, fans eagerly await the release of "Damsel" on Netflix, where the story of transformation and empowerment will undoubtedly resonate with audiences.
